A manzilian is full intimate-area hair removal for men, and electrolysis is the best option when the goal is permanent removal. The amount removed can be customized.
The term started as shorthand for a male Brazilian wax, and today it covers any method that achieves up to full clearance of the groin, shaft, scrotum, and perineum. Some people use the term male brazilian or male brazilian wax because waxing studios popularized the language, yet the goal does not have to be waxing or complete removal.
Why Do Men Choose Full Intimate Hair Removal?
Men seek a manzilian for reasons that extend well beyond grooming trends.
Medical necessity drives many of the referrals we receive. Ingrown hairs in the groin can become cystic and may require surgical drainage. Once the immediate issue is resolved, doctors refer patients for electrolysis permanent hair removal to prevent the cycle from repeating. Conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can also make hair management in this area medically necessary, particularly when perineal skin is already compromised.
Sport-related friction is another common motivator. Cycling, running, and other repetitive-motion activities cause chafing that trapped hair worsens. Full clearance reduces friction and the skin irritation that follows.
Transgender clients also seek permanent intimate-area hair removal as part of gender-affirming care, where genital electrolysis is often a pre-surgical requirement.
Beyond medical and athletic reasons, many men choose a manzilian for comfort in intimate situations, cleanliness, and personal preference. Male intimate grooming is increasingly common, with roughly half of men grooming regularly below the belt. Seeking professional help for this area carries no more significance than treating any other body part.
What We See in the Clinic: We receive doctor referrals for clients whose ingrowns in this area have become cystic and may need surgery. For these clients, permanent hair removal is a medical solution, not a cosmetic preference.
Manzilian Methods Compared
Each method offers a different trade-off between convenience, results, and long-term consequences.
Trimming reduces hair length without full removal. It carries almost no risk of ingrown hairs or skin trauma, making it a reasonable maintenance option between professional treatments. It does not achieve the smooth clearance most people mean when they say “manzilian.”
Shaving gives full clearance at the surface, and that is where problems start. Razor bumps and ingrown hairs in the groin are common, and the skin trauma from repeated shaving on sensitive tissue compounds over time.
Manzilian wax (or male Brazilian wax) pulls hair from the root and provides several weeks of smoothness. The trade-off: waxing increases blood supply to the follicle, which can make hair grow back thicker and deeper over time. It also carries a high risk of folliculitis, a documented complication of waxing procedures, particularly in the intimate area where skin folds trap bacteria.
Manzilian laser hair removal targets pigment in the hair shaft and works well for men with dark, coarse hair and lighter skin. It achieves temporary reduction in hair density, not permanent removal. Hair regrows over time, requiring ongoing sessions to maintain results. Scrotal skin is naturally darker than the surrounding area, which makes it harder for the laser to distinguish between the hair follicle and the skin itself, reducing effectiveness in that zone. Laser also carries a risk of paradoxical hypertrichosis (stimulating increased hair growth), particularly on areas with finer hair.
Manzilian electrolysis treats each follicle individually, creating a barrier between the blood supply and the hair seed so the hair cannot regenerate. It is the only method recognized for permanent hair removal and works on every hair colour and skin type. For men who want permanent results rather than a recurring appointment, electrolysis is the only method that delivers true permanence.
Does the Electrolysis Process Hurt?
Sensitivity varies by person, by area, and by method.
Waxing pulls multiple hairs simultaneously from one of the body’s most nerve-dense areas. Most people describe it as intense and sudden. Shaving is painless during the process, though the ingrown hairs that follow can be far more painful than the hair removal itself.
Electrolysis treats one follicle at a time with a brief sensation most clients describe as a quick pinch when numbing cream is being used. The intimate area is more sensitive than other body parts, and sessions here require an experienced Electrologist who adjusts intensity based on the specific zone being treated.
For pain management, about half of our male clients choose local anesthesia for this area (the same numbing used in dental procedures). We strongly recommend numbing cream at minimum for men who are new to intimate-area electrolysis. Pain tolerance varies, and there is no reason to be uncomfortable when effective options exist.
A consultation should feel practical, respectful, and clear. Your Electrologist should explain positioning, privacy, numbing options, realistic timelines, and how to manage the area between appointments.
Jennifer’s insight: My first manzilian client came to me because ingrown hairs from waxing had made intimacy painful. I thought it would be uncomfortable for me, then I took it on because I wanted to help him feel better. It turned out it was not different than treating any other body part. We approach the intimate area the same way we approach every area: it is hair, and our job is to remove it permanently.
Finding a Manzilian Electrolysis Specialist
Permanent hair removal for men in the intimate area requires a specialist willing to treat this zone. Many Electrologists do not offer manzilian electrolysis, either because they are not comfortable with it or because they have not been trained for the specific techniques these areas require.
At Jade Clinics, every location has an Electrologist who specializes in intimate-area treatment. We see it as a genuine need. The discomfort that prevents some practitioners from offering this service is the same discomfort many clients have carried for years before seeking help. Our approach is straightforward: hair is hair, regardless of where it grows.
Consistent electrolysis treatment intervals matter for results. Body treatments range from 6 to 8 week intervals, and your Electrologist sets the schedule based on your regrowth patterns and the specific zone being treated.
If you are comparing a manzilian wax against a permanent option, the differences between electrolysis and waxing come down to permanence, skin health, and long-term cost.
”Ashley and Sonja have been great, always a relaxed atmosphere and professional service. Also exciting to see progress!! Thanks for making me baby bottom smooth 🙂

Common Questions About Manzilian
How Long Does a Manzilian Electrolysis Session Take?
Session length depends on the area being treated and hair density, and typically ranges in hours. With local anesthesia, the Electrologist can clear more ground in a single sitting, making each session more productive. As hair density decreases over the treatment course, sessions become shorter.
Is a Manzilian Permanent?
A manzilian is permanent only when the hair is treated successfully with electrolysis. Trimming, shaving, and waxing are temporary, and laser achieves reduction rather than permanent removal. Electrolysis creates a permanent barrier between the blood supply and hair seed for each treated follicle.
How Many Electrolysis Sessions for a Manzilian?
The number of sessions depends on hair density, growth cycles, and individual factors. Most clients need sessions over 12 – 18 months, once a full clearing is achieved, with treatments spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for body areas. Hair grows in cycles, and electrolysis treats hair in the active growth stage optimally. Once the hair goes into the shedding stage, the treatment changes from science to art, as the pathway to the blood supply disappears.
Can You Get a Manzilian if You Have Sensitive Skin?
Yes. Electrolysis is adjustable: the Electrologist controls the intensity for each follicle, making it suitable for sensitive skin. Local anesthesia and numbing cream are available for comfort. Clients with sensitive skin often find electrolysis preferable to waxing or shaving, which cause ongoing irritation and ingrown hairs.
